Speech Review

I am quite proud of my speech. Usually when I practiced it at home, it was 4:15, while the time limit was 3-4 minutes. But when I said it in front of the class it was 3:45. I have no idea what happened, haha.

I haven't fully memorized my speech but I have almost learnt it all off by heart :)

I'm going to work on memorizing it and I'm going to keep timing myself so I can be sure when I say it in front of the school, my time won't go back up to over 4 minutes. 

Hopefully it goes well.
And shout out to everyone that did their speech.
You got it over and done with and you won't have to say it again! Or will you...

Goals

I have achieved all my goals. A few of them are on going but I am still doing them :)

The goal that I am going to start doing now is ....*Drum roll*.....

Read 1 book a week :)

Math Stuff

So in Maths, 5 strong areas of mine are:

1. Area/Perimeter

2. Working Form

3. Charts

4. Stuff with decimals

5. Maps/Co-ordinates

I need to improve on:

1. My 12 times tables

(not all, just 9 x 12, 10 x 12,

11 x 12, 12 x 12)

and

2. Memorising stuff like how many cm in m etc.

Reflection | Term 4 | Week 3

Today, this morning, in maths, I learnt how to find the area of a triangle. It was quite simple once you learnt it. All you have to do is remember the formula: 1/2 b h

What it means is 1/2 base x height. I have uploaded a picture that will hopefully make more sense :)
I wish it came in a gif, that would be awesome :P

Hahaha no I am not addicted to tumblr. No I am not addicted to gifs. No I am not addicted to laughing. No I do not have many saved gifs that I wish I could show the world. But here's one :) Wait no, now it's 2 :)

Holidays

In the holidays I did quite a bit. One of the awesome things I did was go to Hastings (Ocean Beach) with Sophia, Frances and Michelle!!!
Ocean Beach was so hot, most of the time. When we got there and walked upstairs to our room thingmibob, we found a panda. And a bear. And a fox. And a dog. But we figured out they were just toys. Not the actual animal. But they were life size! A giant panda, a massive teddy bear and a small dog and fox. So we named them. The panda was called Graham, the bear (I named this one!!!!) was called Tree (named after a bush), the dog has this random name that I can't remember but it had the words, dangerous and giraffe in it. Finally we named the fox Candius.
In Hastings we went to the hot pools. There they had a spa (not that hot but hottish), a warm pool (probably about the temperature of the spa but a bit cooler), a baby pool and a cold pool. The cold pool was freezing! But fun. Then there were also lanes. We spent the day there, getting sunburnt as we forgot the sunscreen!!!!
Beside the house we were staying in was a beach. We went there almost everyday. One night we had a fire on the beach, cooking sausages. We also found a basketball so we went up to random people (putting on accents) and asked them if it was theirs. They probably thought we were freaks, but atleast we will probably not ever see them again.

Passion Project

I want to be able to make a gif. A movie gif. I already know how to make a gif with changing pictures so I hope that will help me. A gif is a moving picture, only a few seconds long, that repeats. People use it a lot on Tumblr and We Heart It and other websites like that. That is a gif (Haymitch Approves) After I have completed making a gif, I will research screen casting and make a tutorial. Who else is doing something on the computer? 

Essay

The Haunting is an essay that I wrote, about a book by Margaret Mahy 2 weeks ago. Before we wrote the essay, we had started reading the book during teacher reading. Then we all got a chapter from which we had to highlight and copy onto google docs, information and quotes about the characters. From the notes we chose 3 characters. I chose Barney (the main character), Tabitha (Barney's older sister) and Great-Uncle-Guy (his name explains it all). Some of the characters didn't have enough notes so it was hard to write about them. We had to explain the characters personalities and say how they predicted the plot (we made a prediction). Once I wrote my essay, I decided to decorate it with a cool title font and bats :). Because it was

about a boy being haunted, I thought it

suited the theme.

The Hunger Games!

Katniss Everdeen

The Hunger Games is a creative book written by Suzanne Collins. The book is set in a dystopian future where the country Panem is split into 13 Districts. Each District provides The Capitol with resources. Every year each District must provide one boy and one girl between the ages of 12 and 18 to be put into an arena to fight to the death. This is for the entertainment of the Capitol and to remind the Districts of the Dark Days, when The Districts uprised against the Capitol. 12 Districts were defeated, the thirteenth destroyed. Now District 13 is gone. The Hunger Games is a symbol that makes people fear The Capitol, a symbol that reminds people that The Dark Days must never be repeated.

Primrose Everdeen

This year at The Reaping, District 12's Katniss Everdeen's name is going into the bowl 20 times. Her younger sister Primrose's name is going in once. At The Reaping District 12's escort, Effie Trinket pulls out a name from the boys bowl and the girls bowl. Howevers name she pulls out, that person will be going into The Hunger Games.

The book was recently made into a movie directed by Gary Ross. Jennifer Lawrence is playing Katniss Everdeen, Willow Shields is playing Primrose Everdeen and Elizabeth Banks is playing Effie Trinket.

I love The Hunger Games probably because it gets my attention. Once I started reading it, I couldn't put the book down! It has lots of cliff hangers, a bit of action, with a touch of romance.

Production

The production is over... but it was awesome! I loved it!!!!!! It went really well, the dances were awesome, people remembered their lines and we survived the quick changes :) Backstage I took lots of photos and videos along with other people. We ate loads of lollies :) Yum Luckily the audience laughed at the jokes, they may have over laughed... but at least it wasn't awkward. 
The teachers were awesome - The Bolgers, getting everyone ready, making sure people had their mics, directing the production and all that but most importantly, sending people out onto stage (in the dark!!) to estimate where to stand.
Props people did well and remembered where to put all the props (thank you Stephanie for helping me with my mic!!!!) 
Make up people did an awesome job on our faces!!! (Beth, Ella and Shanaea with a little help from Rosie, Sophia and Joanna :)) When they couldn't do our make-up, the teachers helped out by slopping on face paint to get ready for the Freaky Circus scene!

Rain

Okay, so it rained this morning! Yay!!!!! So I did a rain sorta dance thingymibob :) But it's stopped raining now :( Wait, take that back, it's raining again!!!!! Lol I like bad weather. So yeah, that's the interesting thing that's happened...

FEATHERS

The whole school is covered in feathers. LITERALLY!!!! Well not literally. But feathers are everywhere! HANNAH'S MOLTING!!! But she's not. Her costume is. We've finished all our costumes! I think... Yay! What else to say? Umm...

Getting Ready For The Production

I need to perfect a few steps in Can't Touch This (break it down) and Mr Kite (the waltz). I also need to become a bit more confident with my lines and where I need to stand. Other than that, I think I'm all good :D Umm... oh right! I need to figure out how long I have to get changed between dances and help friends (thank youuuu friends for helping me!!!!) ILY guys :D

Olympic Faves

I like watching quite a bit of the Olympics but I really like the gymnastics. Everyone is so strong (boys and girls) and what they do with their bodies... wow!
I think I have watched the gymnastics before but after 4 years I've sort of forgotten.


The boys and girls compete on different apparatuses:
Boys - Floor, Pommel Horse, Rings, Vault, High Bar and Parallel Bars.

Girls - Floor, Beam, Vault and Uneven Bars.

Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare

Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

Divergent by Veronica Roth

I really like these types of books. The Hunger Games and Divergent are similar as they are both set in a dystopian future in made up countries and are full of action (Hunger Games is not so actiony though).

On the other hand, Clockwork Angel is set in the past, Victorian Times in England. Cassandra Clare changed some of the words to sayings that English people would say and used real streets and citys. That made the books seem as if they were written in that time period and in that place.

All of the books are series. The Hunger Games has 3 books - The Hunger Games, Catching Fire and Mockingjay. Clockwork Angel has 2 books - Clockwork Angel, Clockwork Prince and the last book in the series (Clockwork Princess) will come out next year. Divergent has 2 books - Divergent, Insurgent but Veronica Roth has written another book with an unknown name which will come out (I think) the end of next year.

The Hunger Games has been made into a movie and Catching Fire is being made now in Hawaii! When I go there (whenever that is) I am going to where they filmed and well I'm not really sure, I'll find my way from there. Catching Fire will come out next year (oh no I just forgot the date! what was it!!!) November (I know that part's right) 17th (not sure about that date though...).

Clockwork Angel I think is going to be a movie. I'm not really sure though. But if it was one... wow yay!!!!

Divergent is the same as Clockwork Angel in my thoughts. Why is it now that all of the dates and info has gone poof out of my brain??? :(

Holidays :D

Yay, holidays! I went to the movies and watched 'The Amazing Spiderman'. It was such good
 movie. It wasn't rated that well because apparently it didn't have a very good storyline. But when I watched it, I found it awesome!!! I watched it in 3D and there were some awesome scenes where spiders popped out infront of my face and yeah, it was cool.
Somehow I finished a large popcorn and a large coke with my brother. I don't know how we got them ithem in the first place until the checkout whatever you call them dude gave us a deal. He also gave us a poster :D Sadly it wasn't a very good poster... But overall it was a really super awesome movie and I suggest that everyone watches it!!!!

Artwork

This is my artwork. I chose the photo of the 2 girls in the midde because I thought that it would be easy to make a background with it. The girls are wearing flowers on their heads and they are wearing jewlery with a dotty pattern so that helped me think of this pattern :D

Term 2 Goals

My Academic Goal was my Independent Study. I wanted to expand my vocabulary. I have been reading and finding words I don't know and putting them and their meaning in the back of my Reading book. I have achieved this goal because now I know some more words - I know what a chilblain is!!!!
I haven't had any opportunities to help with liturgy’s and masses for my Catholic Character goal.
I have been focusing on my Science Fair and I believe that I have achieved that goal.

Masterchef!!!

I found Masterchef really fun. We had to make something (well some food) with a base of apple. It was complicated to find a unique dish of food because when I think of apple, I think about Apple Crumble, Pork, and well that's really it. But then I found a recipe of Apple Hazel Nut Filo Pie. It is a filo pastry 'pie' with a filling of apple, hazel nut and orange. Other people did Apple cakes/muffins, Apple tarts, Apple ... well anything you can think of with apple in it. Everything I tasted was really good.

Another fun thing about Masterchef is that we had a Masterclass with Mz Bolger! She made us a Bacon and Mushroom Risoto. Another really good tasting dish of food. As she made it we wrote down the recipe. Yum! :P

Space

This week I learned that the moon is actually one big rock, created from lots of smaller rocks. From Earth we only ever see one side of the moon. On that side there are marks that end up looking like a bunny (but Frances thinks it looks like a sheep).

I also learned that in space asteroids and other flying stuff bash into planets and create dents.

Pittacus Lore

John and his guardian Cepan Henry, came to earth after a race of aliens called Mogadorians destroyed their planet Lorien. All of the 9 children that came to earth, were linked together so that they could only be killed in order of 1 – 9.

In the beginning we were a group of nine.

Three are gone, dead.

There are six of us left.

They are hunting us, and they won’t stop until they’ve killed us all.

I am Number Four.

I know that I am next.

John and Henry moved to Paradise, Ohio to try keep discreet and have a low profile. But John starts attracting attention as he gets on the bad sides of bullies and shows his true self to friends. And when John starts forming his Legacies, it doesn’t help him at all.

I take a deep breath and exhale. “I understand what is happening, but why this?”

“Your first Legacy.”

“I know that, but why the lights?”

“We’ll talk about it in the truck. Can you walk?”

“I think so.”

He helps me up. I am unsteady, still shaking. I grab hold of his forearm for support.

The Mogadorians are getting closer and John is becoming more vulnerable. Will he choose his friends over himself?

I Am Number 4 is an action, mystery book with a hint of romance. I strongly recommend it for people age 12 +.

Tree Art



Lately in class, I have been doing art. I have made a leaf print picture and I have also made a autumn tree picture. I made a purple background then painted a black tree trunk with water colours. With a straw I made the branches of the tree. I stuck on paper cuttings with a gluey thing. This is the end product!



Holidays!!!

The Easter Holidays have just finished. I had lots of fun with my friends and family but the 2 weeks went by fast. My family and I spent some of our weekends at our beach house. We caught some fish from our boat, went cycling and harvested fruit and vege from our garden.

I also started reading Cassandra Clare's series - Infernal Devices. They were very good books and kept me occupied for a long time. Have you read them? Who is your favourite character amd why? Now I just have to wait another year til the third and final book comes out.

I went to the movies and watched The Lorax with some friends and I saw The Hunger Games again with my family. I also watched The Tourist and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part 2 at home. What is your favourite movie you have watched?

Hi!!! This is my first blog. I'm not really sure what to write so here is what I will write:
Okay, my name is Emily. I ♥ Hunger Games. I saw the movie on Saturday and it was awesome! If you haven't seen it, see it. I have also read the books and they were again, awesome! Thank you Suzanne Collins!
If you have read the books, which one was your favourite and why?
I have to say that the first and second were probably the best ones, but if I had to decide between the 2,I would choose the first one. I find that the books are better when they are set in the arena. There is more action and the game makers make all kinds of surprises. But the last book was also really good. It wasn't set in the arena but there was still lots of surprises and action. Overall, for me, I love all the books, they are all awesome!!
